Title- Is it to late?

Summary- Martin is lying in a coma and Sam wonders if it's to late.
Spoilers- Anything up to season 4

Chapter 1

Martin is lying in a hospital in serious condition and is in a coma which he may never wake from. He was shot while transporting a prisoner to jail.
Samantha is sitting next to him holding his hand crying. She never thought this would happen.
"Marty, if you can hear me it's Sam," she whispers next to his ear, "you need to wake up because, we need you, I need you." Sam now crying.
Danny comes in at just the right time to hear Sam say 'I need you'.
"Sam did I just hear you right?"
Sam jumped not knowing he was there.
"Did you say I need you Martin?" Danny says with a smirk.
"No, you must have heard wrong." Sam said harshly.
Danny unbelieving says "yeah right! Sam it's ok. I know you have a crush on Martin, have since his first day."
At Danny's last comment SAm looked shocked.
"What are you talking about Danny? His first day..." Danny interupts to say "Yeah, you made a comment about his smile." Danny said smiling to himself.
Sam just smiled remembering that day.

Flashback- Martin's first day

Jack " As you all know, we've a new member joining us today. Martin Fitzgerald. Let's make sure we give him the frosty welcome that all rookies deserve." Martin just smiles his sweet smile. Jack starts his introductions. "Vivian Johnson." She smiles. "Samanthat Spade" gives a little smirk, "Danny Taylor" gives stern look. "the clock is ticking. Let's get out there." Jack and Martin turn to leave.
Danny and Sam walking and talking.
"Two years working white-collar in Seattle and he gets this assignment?" Danny commented.
"It doesn't hurt to be Victor Fitzgerald's kid." Sam says back to him.
Ah, no wonder he's smiling." Danny says
"Not a bad smile either." Sam says smiling herself.
Danny just looks at her and smiles unsure if she knows he heard her. But he did.

End flashback

Back at the hospital... Two hours later

Sam is still sitting with Martin, Danny left over a hour earlier still not believing Sam when she states she doesn't have feelings for Martin.
"Martin it's me again." Sam says after letting a few tears slip out.
'Thank God Danny isn't here to see me cry. I'de never hear the end of it' Sam thinks to herself.
"Do you remember your frist day?" she stalls "of course you do. You got your head bashed in by a baseball bat." she says 'how could anyone foreget that' she says to self.
Sam looks back at Martin.
"The first thing I noticed about you was your smile. You have such a beautiful smile." Sam says smiling herself. "I need you to wake up, so I can see that beautiful smile of yours that makes me feel like jelly." Sam starts to cry again kissing his hand and cheek.

Chapter 2- 'Birthday Boy'

Two days later Sam is back at the hospital. She stops at Martin's door noticing an older women in with him. 'Must be his mom'
Sam thinks to herself.
Martin's mother feels eyes on her and looks back and sees Sam standing there. Sam is so embarrassed that she starts to leave when Martin's mom stops her.
"Agent Spade?" Karen asks.
"Um, yes. You must be Martin's mother." Sam says nervously.
"Yes i am. You can call me Karen." says giving Sam a smile. "You must be Samantha are you not?" Karen asks.
"Yes I am. How do know?" Sam asks wondering how a women whom she's never met knows who she is.
"Martin speaks very highly of you." Karen states matter of factly "he told us you were beautiful and he wasn't lieing." she adds.
Sam now blushing doesn't know what to do or say.
"Are you ok dear? You look a little flush?" Karen asks after a few minutes of silence.
"I don't know. What else has Martin said? If you don't mind telling me, that is?" Sam asks
"Well I don't know if Martin wants me to tell you" Sam looks down sadly, Karen then adds, "he might want to tell you himself when he wakes up."
One hour later Sam and Karen are still talking about this and that when Sam tells Karen, "You know Karen, Martin is really good at his job. On one of out cases he was on desk duty for messing up on his first day, but that just make him want to do better." Sam now thinking back to that day when Martin came up with a theory on how and why Gabe ran away.

-Flashback- Martin's theory

Sam "So far, all we got on that e-mail address is that it's registered somewhere in Texas."
Jack "That doesn't help us much. We already knew he was headed there."
Danny "Um, so the theory is... that some friend, family member, someone at the adoption agency... someone who knew that Gabe was adopted." Danny pauses to think what else to add. "Broke the news to him over the internet has been using that information to prey on him and has now lured him to Texas?"
"Right" Sam adds
"Why would that work? Gabe didn't know he was adopted. Why would he ever believe him?" Danny asks
"Maybe the have a copy of his records, or know about his birthmark on his right shoulder or they're just preying on the insecurities of a kid that has a new baby coming into the family."
Martin looking upset at hearing about people doing that to kids.
Sam interupts, "Look maybe someone convinced him and managed to con him into not telling his parents." Jack then interupts. "The first contact must have been an e-mail. After that, it must be instant messages because there's no record of the communication on Gabe's computer.
Martin finally decides to put his 2 cents worth. "I thind Gabe found out he was adopted and he's the one who initiated all this." Everyone is intune to listening to what he has to say and Danny has this mean demeanor to his stance. "There's these 'Find-Your-Parent, Find-Your-Child' websites. Most of them aren't regulate. And like Danny was saying, any John Q. pediphile who wants to lure these kids into his lair puts one of these things on the Net and he's in business. These kids log on, give them their names, they ask for help. These guys go along with it and pretend to be doing all research and then they say "I found you father here's his e-mail address."
"Except, it's not the fathers it's the pediphiles. And the pediphile convinces the kid to communicate using instant messages so they can keep it their little secret." Jack steps in and states.
"Makes sense to me." Danny adds nodding his head.
"And I ran back round checks on all these websites and one of them is registered in Amarillo, Texas." Sam gives surprised yet amazed look ar Martin. "I got the computer guys on it now."
After everything is said and done Jack tells Martin that he gets to go with him and Danny to Sante Fe. Martin gets up out of his chair with a big smile on his face and looks directly at Sam who watches him go with a smile on her face.
-End Flashback-

"Martin then gets the guy by tackleing him into the water." Sam then tells Karen.
"When he gets back I gave him a little crap about getting wet and he just shakes it off say, "better then sweating my ass off in the dog house." Sam smiles remembering that conversation. "He did a really great job on that case." Sam then adds.
"Thank you for telling me how good a job he's done. It makes me happy knowing he's accomplishing what he wants." Karen says smiling at Martin knowing he's lying there because he chooses to do a job were this kind of thing can happen easily.
