Summary: After a rocky discussion, a friendly face from Martin’s past pays him a visit, making him reflect about his relationship with Sam.
Disclaimer: The characters are not mine. If they were I would probably freak out and start writing the wedding today. Yeah, I am silly like that.
Danny and Samantha had never talked much about feelings, not in the last few years anyway, let alone about sex. But he planned to teach her a few things about the male mind. Obviously, she had some things to learn.
"Do you want a little suggestion?" He asked, finding the courage to approach the subject.
"What?" She asked, cautiously.
"Okay… Sam… don’t get me wrong, but I think you need to break the ice with Martin with……….. sex,” he said, controlling the urge not to laugh when he saw her face.
“Sex isn’t the answer to a mature relationship, Danny,” she replied in an embarrassed tone, hoping she wasn’t blushing hard.
“Oh God, you tried to solve things by having have sex with him, didn’t you?" He laughed.
She tried to pretend what he was saying wasn’t absurd but she couldn’t control her own laughter. The situation was so bizarre and she was so embarrassed that laughter was almost like a reflex and a release for her.
"I tried a few times in the first day of abstinence, that is, after we broke up. But he kept rejecting my advances so I just gave up. He knows me really well Danny, he knows I may use sex as a way to avoid having a serious conversation about us and now he won’t accept this approach. He’s not willing to give me an easy way out this time. Oh God… I can’t believe I am telling you all these things.”
“I wish I was drunk right now, but here I am, being blatantly honest with you without any trace of alcohol in my blood stream. Martin knows that sex, at least for me, is a way to make things okay without having to actually talk and resolve problems. We used sex as a way to solve problems for a long time and now it’s simply not working anymore," she said sadly. “I’m screwed Danny, he knows all my tricks.”
“I really like “Drunk Sam”, she’s fun and honest……… Well, except for that one time when you picked up one of my condoms and decided to stretch the thing so you could test if it was resistant like the box said. And I ended up with a black eye because the condom slipped through your hands and hit me in the face,” Danny said smiling, reminding her of one of the most embarrassing days of her life. “But a Sam who is open and sober is even better. Maybe Martin would like to see this side too.”
“I think he’d like it too, but it scares me to death being honest with him sometimes,” Samantha sighed. “I really don’t know what’s happening to me Danny. I freeze when I have to talk to him. What can I do to make things easier?”
“We must be in some kind of alternate universe”, Danny thought. “Samantha Spade showing vulnerability? Wow, she’s really changed in the last couple of years!” It was kind of amusing watching her confessing things to him. It was also amusing how much in denial she was. How can she not notice that she was scared because she was falling in love with Martin? He could tell her that and have a serious conversation about the fact she needed to express her deepest feelings to Martin, but that could cause even more trouble between them. Most probably, Samantha would freak out!”
"OK, here’s my official “man advice” Samantha; you have to break the ice and do something special for him, then you’ll see that things will get better and the communication will flow naturally. The first contact is always the most difficult thing to make.” Danny said, very amused, feeling like he was some kind of a women’s magazine columnist. writing a story, “How to trick a man to your bed in 10 easy steps” by Danny Taylor.
"But how, Danny? Because it’s not like he’s treating me badly. If he were, it would be easier for me to understand and to deal with the situation, because I’ve been there. I’ve been treated like crap before and I reversed the situation. But in his case, it’s different, we’re just … ….far apart. He’s pulling away. And I feel like we can’t resolve our problems not only because of our own issues, but because of this insane schedule Jack put us on. I’m getting tired, cranky, suffering from huge lack of sex crisis and am probably in some permanent state of PMS. Honestly, I’m on the verge of becoming a ticking bomb, Danny, you and I know I can’t talk with Martin while I am feeling like this. It’s gonna hurt us even more. Actually, I’m out of patience for talking; I think if we get close enough again I’ll just end up raping him," she replied with a smile.
Danny laughed. Observing abstinence in others was so fun; in a sick, sick way.
"If you want sex Sam, it’s easy; you only have to make it irresistible. Then he’ll have sex with you because he won’t’ be able to control his urges and you’ll finally be able to relax!" He said, smirking at her.
"Again, how? I though sex was, by definition irresistible." Sam was intrigued by Danny’s smirk and wanted details, all the gory details.
"Sexual fantasy, my dear Samantha. There's no guy on earth who could turn his biggest sexual fantasy.” He said, stating the obvious.
“Danny! No way! Martin will never fall for that.” She exclaimed out loud and almost instantly she turned her head to see if there was someone listening to them.
“Well, enjoy your abstinence then, it’s amusing to watch it actually, you guys are so needy that it’s really fun. The only exception being when one of you yells at me. But I’m the one who gets the last laugh anyway because I’m not that desperate!”
“Okay!” She groaned, “fill me in with the details of this sex fantasy…….… stuff.”
“Didn’t you guys ever talked about these kinds of things?” He asked tentatively, not sure he wanted to hear about their sex lives.
"Not really, he mentioned a sex tape once but it was only meant to be a joke" She divulged, trying to search her memory for any trace of sexual kinkiness or habits Martin might have. They never talked about sex; things sort of happened without too much discussion.
