I think it might have been just the case in general, at Samantha getting in danger and almost killed. He did still care about her a lot and though he is incredibly intuitive, I don't think he knew much about Samantha and Martin at that point. But that's a good question! Maybe he knew almost from the start?? Hard to know because he did put off bringing it up until like ep 15, which in show time was probably a few months later or something.
