Back a couple years ago when this aired, there was a great deal of discussion going on here in the U.S. about this situation.
We have so many cases sensationalized by our media, but it is always about a white child: Calee Anthony is the current fascination with the media. Then there was Natalie Holloway, Elizabeth Smart. the media goes on and on and on. It is the prime story in newscasts, the public is inundated with these stories. I think it is done under the guise of "helping to find the child", but the reality is it is sensational TV and with all the cable and network channels, there is way too much time to fill.
the point to be taken is these are all white. When a black child, or other ethneticity, is involved there is no outrage, the media ignores their stories. I am not making a judgement here, just stating the facts.
Sad to say, but racism is still a part of society.

I suppose being from outside the US it'd hard to understand much of what's going on.
