Hiya everyone!
All right... I guess I wll be the first to write a review for this.
So sit back and be prepared for a long read... LOL!
1. Spoilers vs. Final VersionIf you guys get the chance, go to the 'Spoiler' Section and reread the spoilers that Jenn has posted for this episode. If you do, you find out that like 90% of the spoilers posted on there have been drastically changed in the finished product...
I was like 'Whoa'... when I read it... Only a few things remained the same, like Michael saying how he has two kids to the diplomat's wife before he went to show her the clip of her husband falling asleep at the UN meeting...
Everything else was scraped big time... and for once, I'm glad they did since the final version was so much better despite one major glaring confusion aka the Adele character.
2. Who Is the Blonde? Which of course brings me to her next... I guess that's what you get when you shift episodes around. Keep in mind, this episode was originally Episode 1.03 before they switched it over to Episode 1.02.
I assume that the 'Adele' character aka the new deputy director was introduced then?
No clue... *shrugs*
You do see her in a 'recap' at the opening... which I assume was the recap for the first two episode...
But once the episode starts you just see her in Higgins office in the very beginning...
You have no clue what's her name is... much less her role...
Heck, she could have easily been mistaken for Higgins' secretary/assistant there... and it's not until 3/4 into the epiode that you FINALLY found out her name and her position in the Agency...
Talk about bad, bad... very bad character introduction...
And what's worst... I still don't know why the Agency would even hire another deputy director in the first place... Weren't they laying off people not in the 'Pilot'
I just can't see one department having 2 deputy directors when it's pretty obvious that Higgins is the 'Big Cheese' around and 'Adele' is acting like the pretty secretary/assistant of his...
Argh... Talk about major confusion there...
Oh, talking about Higgins being the boss around there... One of the scene that got changed from the original spoilers was where 'Adele' was supposed to be facing that slimeball calling himself a Congressman to confront him about him leaking the story of the diplomat defecting to the press when the guys were still working their way out.
It was changed... big time... and Higgins was the one who ended up confronting the Congressman. Not only does it enforce that Higgins was the one in power, but it also pretty much undermine Adele position in the Agency since she was the one who blurted the whole mess to the Congressman in the first place...
No hints of any romantic tension between Adele and the Congressman though. She only told him thinking she did the right thing... which I thought was a pretty stupid move to begin with...
So at this point, if you ask me... Adele is pretty much Higgins 'right-hand gal' now if she isn't busy being his secretary/assistant. So why even bother giving her the fancy titlte of 'deputy director'... It seemed to be misued in this case when it's clearly the case that she is not.
3. The New SetsLOVE the new sets... especially the guys office! It's so much 'homier' and 'warmer' if you ask me. It has hall windows and curtains behind Michael and Rick's desk... and the hallways aren't that dark either.
Lots of hallway windows... with lots of proper lightening which I think is a big improvement from the set in the 'Pilot'
At least you can watch the guys walk down the hallways without hitting any of those horrible dark spots.
Although... I think Higgins office has remained the same... Hmm! Makes you wonder if his scenes were shot after the 'Pilot' got picked up.
4. Michael As A LeaderLOVE it! Hehe! ;D
What can I say... The guy is good at what he does... especially when it comes to tactics and stragegy. You have to give him props for that.
Not only did he figure a way to get into North Korea... he also figured a way to get out... even though it was supposed to be Rick's job...
But things changed with the wife told them she wanted to take a her sister's family with her.
5. Michael's Clothes & GlassesAnd on a more superficial note... LOL!
Michael has many looks... At the beginning of the episode, you see him wear a suit, but it was with loose tie around his neck... which I happened to love...
Then you get him wear his suit proper once the guys got to New York City... The FBI was there, but too bad it wasn't the 'right' Missing Persons Unit... LOL!
Then you got him wear casual look... without a tie... Yummy!
And then at the end... Michael wearing his reading glasses!
YAY! Seriously, I wasn't sure if they would remember about it... seeing how they shot a 'Pilot' a while ago, but I'm glad they did!
So yes, he's wearing his reading glasses when he does his reading... and he looks super hot with them!
6. Rick, Casey & Billy BondingThis scene was rather good. I really like it. You get to see the three of them bonding before they made a mad dash across the Chinese border.
Basically what happened is that Rick was thinking about Billy's words from earlier... about 'star-crossed lovers' a la Shakespeare... That's how he saw the husband and wife and they would do anything for each other.
Rick asks the guys or rather shares with them which girl they would take a bullet for. Of course, he goes first... then Casey... but Billy holds back...
I had to laugh at Casey's words at Billy... something along the line at how he 'takes offense at his lack of openess'... LOL!
Deliverance was spot on!
Interestingly enough, Michael was not included in this 'bonding' scene... since he was off talking to Higgins and checking on the status when they could cross the border...
I don't know what to make of it... It was a pretty big scene for the guys...
And it was did come back again at the end... the very last scene where Rick was searching for the girl on the computer to see what she was up to... Michael asked what he was doing and both Rick and Casey explained it to him... before they called out on Billy for not 'sharing' with them.
Billy eventually does share... but... nothing from Michael...
Like I said... It was kinda odd... which does make me wonder if that's the reason why they are shifting the next episodes to make it more 'Billy' and 'Casey' oriented after sharing the 'the woman I would take a bullet for' with Rick...
Overall, I think the pace of the episode was better compared to the 'Pilot' despite the glaring confusion of introducing the 'Adele' character.
It wasn't so rushed... better settings... with a little less humor than the 'Pilot'.
And the guys have settled down considerable when it comes to hazing the newbie... Although, Michael still does his part so every often... LOL!
He did send Rick off to the rooftop of the hotel to go check to make sure that there was enough room for a helicopter to land.
Although, I don't think he tell Rick to go take the stars 28 floors up! That's what they have elevators for! LOL!
What about you guys? Anything else to add?
