"Honor Bound" -- The team searches for a 25-year-old Korean-American who vanishes after a fight with her new boyfriend during her night shift at her parents' deli, on WITHOUT A TRACE, Thursday, Oct. 27 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Ken Collins directed the episode written by Amanda Segel Marks.
The investigation begins to uncover that the missing Wendy Kim felt stifled by the expectations of her traditional immigrant parents and her custom-bound elder brother, who are ashamed that she broke off her engagement to a man from their community. Initially, the team wonders if she's the casualty of a store robbery, if she's been victimized by her new boyfriend or spurned ex-fiancé, or if she simply ran away with the night's cash to start a new life for herself. Numerous additional suspects come to light when the team discovers, to her family's surprise, that Wendy was also an extremely active member in an Internet dating service.

I was pretty....um, bored by the episode, sad to say. I hope sweeps can kick it up a notch. We've seen the same plots over and over. The same twists. *sigh* and with the lack of any personal interaction, it was dull. And really, I wasn't leaning towards either side of the fence when it comes to Elena but this episode I just found her to be a little too much. We get it. She's new. Blah blah blah. She doesn't need to show up every 3 minutes. I thought it ended rather abruptly and that kinda took away any emotion for me. The flashes of beating drums were just...I dunno. I can see what they were TRYING to do, but it all was too rushed and predictable to have an impact. Here I was so excited for this season and I find it flailing already. *sigh* And get some damn shippy-ness already. We've had nothing. Not even subtle explanations about where everyone's at. And M/S's body language doesn't seem particularly promising. What I would find awful is if Sam's internet-dating "friend" was actually her. Barf. I pretty sure it's just some reference to show the friendship between Elena and Sam but still....the comment gave me the heebie jeebies. ETA: And thanks for the pics, Susan!

It was an ok ep, but nothing to write home about. Glad to see Martin cane-less. At least he and Sam were in some scenes together. But everone was just so buissnessy.
I thought the same thing Eskimo Jo did when Sam was telling that story but then wrote it off because of the friend's engagement. But then Sam was wearing a silver band on her right hand later. I wrote that off too because I forgot about that earlier conversation but now you got me worried. So I second Eskimo Jo's "Barf" at the thought.

Thanks for the caps Susan!
It seems like this epi was a bit disappointing, wasn't it?? That's the second epi in row where there's no MS if I remember well and it seems like they've completely dropped the aftermath of the shooting (Danny, Danny/Martin, the cane). I hope they get their act together.

We're back to season 1 again. All procedure related drama with little personal interaction.
TV land swipes away all the bad things in the relationships and everyone just goes on with normal life.
It's still a great show and maybe we will get better as the season progresses. At least we have some scenes together. M&S are getting along! That is a plus. They could be fighting. Or they could have put him with Elena. We may be surprised later on to find out what's going on behind the scenes that we don't see on a weekly basis.
Not sure I like the direction they seem to be heading with Danny and Elena. There was just a hint of something in the air there last night. Didn't like the looks he was giving her. I don't dislike her she's got spunk and is learning the ropes. I just don't see the need for the new character.
I'm wondering if the long hours of filming (13 was what Susan said) is taking it's toll on the cast so they added a new person to give them a life outside the studio. It would be hard to keep that up week after week. That's why many Hollywood couples don't make it. They are never together. Career takes over. Just a thought.
Martin with no cane and looking great. Wonder why Sam had to go to so much therapy when she got shot and he just goes on with life? More behind the scenes issues we aren't seeing?
I'll still keep watching and it is still the best with great ratings so let's not give up on the writers. There will be better things to come.

yeah tracetracker, a bit of optimism will do us good; i wouldn't like to start losing interest in the show. I haven't seen the ep yet, and I have one question; wasn't these the ep in which martin was supposed to throw away a whole sandwitch? mayb the spoiler just referred to the scene in "from the ashes" the rejected sandwitch- bah and what does exactly say sam about the internet dating thing? thanks guys oh, and thanks susan for the caps!

I agree with the rest of you! I am getting really frustrated with the writers right now. I mean they have led us to all these amazing story plots and then dropped them for 3 episodes without so much as a mention.
The only reason I rush home or tape WAT is because of the little bit of personal stuff. Without that it is just another procedural drama...someone goes missing and they find them...nothing to keep you waiting for the next episode.
I really hope the give us a litte bit of M/S, I am starting to get really frustrated. If they don't start getting us something soon, our girls tv night is going to move to the bar!

Hmmm....I got nothing new to add. I agree with everyone's comments.
I'm not saying I want the show to be all soapy but I am getting really annoyed that everyone is all hum drum again. Most of season 2 was about Sam's 'fallout' from getting shot and I know I keep beating this home but she was ACCIDENTLY shot. Danny and Martin were intentionally and maliciously fired upon and because they are guys they just bounce right back? Jack sends Sam to therapy for shooting two armed suspects, which is justifiable, but Danny almost kills a hostage and that thing with that high school kid and there are no ramifications for that? Grrrr.....
I am very angry with the WaT writers. It feels like everyone is just phoning it in right now. *fingers crossed* that things pick up in November.
Does anyone watch The Closer? The part where someone else posted the picture of the girl on that S&M website with the rape scenario was done on that show previously and much better I have to confess.

Neh, the eppie was okay, I guess. But I can totally relate to Wendy/Sun in some ways. For one, I'm also asian and two, we do have a rigid tradition so it's easy to understand her actions.
But other than that, the eppie wasn't just there for me. I was really hoping for some Martin and Sam scenes, but I'm happy they were at least working together. And Danny is suddenly okay still? What is going on??

I agree, especially with sinwagon1. Without any personal stuff it's just like a Law & Order spinoff. Part of what made this show great was the balance of the procedural and personal, not the procedure itself. Even in the pilot there was definate personal moments. Practically every week there were bits and pieces, that we actually CARED about. (The problem is there was a bit this week but it was about Elena *snore*). This week...Hmmm, some "Elena coming-of-age in the business" stuff. Meh. Since I have no interest in her character, since she really has no character yet, that was pretty dull.
The problem was not just with this detachment that everyone has with each other, it's the detachment they have with the cases. The plots are predicatable and the agents don't seem particularly interested either.
This should have been an episode that resonated with me. My best friend is in a very similar situation but even with the experiences (of what I'm told is all too common in traditional Korean families), it fell flat somehow.
Personally, the more I think about it, the more I would prefer it if M/S were fighting. If Viv and Jack were tense with each other. If Danny and Martin had some residual angst. But all the things that have been hinted at this season (V/J tension and M/D angst) just evaporated. And the reason I would prefer M/S fighting is because it would at least have them interacting on a personal level, rather than this strict, cold professionalism. What struck me is that all through seasons 1 & 2, Martin and Sam would work together and pretty much always one of them would make some sort of comment, something personal, just a hint or a joke or something. Now they're pure business.
It's sad. And makes things really boring when the plot isn't interesting either. I pretty much called that the brother did it at the beginning. I'm not sure where the writers get their ideas but I would suggest to them to start reading newspapers, and not just local ones. Read newspapers from all over. I can think of many cases from around here that could loosely translate into interesting cases. A little touchy some of them and definately shocking, but still.
Just read the papers. Like the X-Files writers did to get fresh juices flowing. I know there was a point in the X-Files when the cases seemed pretty lame, but they got over it. Unfortunately, WaT hit that roadblock pretty early last season and pulled out of it with the finale and premiere, but is slowly slipping back down.
*fingers crossed for sweeps*
At least Poppy isn't wearing her ring on her left ring finger anymore! That was confusing last year. And mildly amusing considering her character was with Martin at the time...And now she's not, Poppy's moved her ring. Maybe the director finally noticed......
As much as I'm rooting for more personal stuff, a marriage-bound Sam would make me cry sad, sad tears. No crazy "OMGWTF" personal soap opera stuff. Just the subtleties, teh friendships, and the actual care that these agents USED to have for each other.

At this point I am just looking for a little something. Like you said Eskimo Jo, everybody just seems so professional and they are not even getting attached to the cases. I am really disappointed so far. I hope they can turn it around because if not, it's going to be aweful hard to keep setting aside a Thursday night to watch it.
I think after the premiere and the 2nd episode it has been a huge letdown, maybe they can pull us all back in during November. You can tell just by this website and the activity on it that the buzz is just lacking...wonder why!

evancar, there was no sandwitch thing, at least none that I saw. The internet dating thing was the new girl stating disbelif on internet dating and Sam said that one of her friends met their fiancee that way.
